Best Camp Mattress for Heavy People - Air Beds Vs. Memory Foam Beds - Best Buys for People Between 200 and 400 Pounds and Couples with a Combined weight of 600 pounds
I waited a year to review the Coleman Double High bed because I wanted to be certain that it would perform well for heavy couples over time. Don't be fooled by blogs written by skinny folks who haven't purchased or tried the products they recommend. Get recommendations you can trust by visiting my blog at Camp Like Home dot com. My focus is to find outdoor beds, chairs and toilets that make life more comfortable for heavy people, older people and folks who simply want to create an outdoor experience that feels like home.
The Coleman double high is more durable than most air beds
ADVANTAGES:
DISADVANTAGES:
- This mattress is large enough for two heavy people to sleep comfortably. It's rated for 600 pounds. You won't always see that number often when shopping for air beds!
- This mattress is simply the best travel option available for reducing pressure points.
- This mattress will stay cool when it's hot outside.
- This mattress stands so tall that you won't have to crouch to the ground to get in bed.
- At around $45, this mattress is super cheap to obtain. I actually paid around $70 for this mattress last year, so grab this deal before they raise the price again!
DISADVANTAGES:
- This mattress will absorb a chill from the ground and become brutally cold when temperatures drop below 60 degrees. You may have to purchase a thermo reflective sleep pad to place below the mattress.
- This mattress will transfer motion.Your body will move each time your partner decides to shift positions. If your partner is heavier than you, you may have a tendency to roll inward. For this very reason, I keep a slim folding mattress on the side. If our air bed gets cold or if my husband's tossing and turning begins to make me feel like a sailor at sea, I simply transfer to the backup mattress.
- My Coleman double high mattress has not yet begun to lose air, but all air beds will eventually have problems staying inflated, especially if you plan to use it as a main bed. This is not my first Rodeo. I've owned mattresses made by Coleman and Intex. At some point, you'll have to wake up in the middle of the night and refill the thing, but it's a small price to pay for overall comfort.
Best Warming Camp Mattress - Won't Lose Air
Don't expect camp pads to be comfortable for heavy folks
Don't be tricked into buying the Mondo King
The Mondo King is often mentioned in connection to comfort, portability and convenience. Sure, it's about as comfortable as a Milliard 4- inch mattress, and it's more compact. It's also a whole lot more expensive and very difficult to deflate. The moment I experienced how difficult and time consuming it was to get it packed down and rolled up again, I sent mine back. If you have an extra hour to kill while packing down camp, this could be your perfect mattress. If not, go for a 4 -inch tri-folding mattress that can be folded down in seconds.
