How to Save a Bundle of Space in Your Vehicle
Space saving tips from a camp equipment junkie
I replaced my bulky hibachi with a slim folding notebook grill.
I gave up my big tailgate grill for a little camp stove.
I curse the day that I bought a giant Coleman Road Trip grill for tailgaiting. It's super heavy and awkward to set up. It take a ridiculous amount of space that I desperately need to pack other items. A simple Coleman Classic Camp Stove was the ultimate answer to my prayers.

I replaced my Camp Chef with slim folding tables
I almost cried when I had to leave my Camp Chef storage table behind, but I quickly found that those extra storage bags weren't necessary once I scaled down my cooking equipment. The bulky frame of the Camp Chef is just difficult to work into the back of an SUV already loaded with large beds and giant tents.

I replaced my mismatched pots with a compact nesting set
Before I discovered nesting sets, my odd collection of camp pans filled an entire storage tub! This thick, high quality nesting set from Stansport is even better than the expensive stainless steel pots I use in my home kitchen. If open fire cooking is your thing, rest assured that these pans will stand up to any cooking scenario in the home or on the trail.

I replaced my camp sink with a spray bottle of vinegar
I've learned that I don't need to haul a complete kitchen setup everywhere I go. I simply spray my dirty dishes with vinegar and wipe them clean with a paper towel. For extra sticky pots that require scrubbing, I simply fill them with water and boil while scraping with a rubber spatula. I don't need a sink for the final rinse. My vinegar spray is far more effective at killing germs!

I traded our bulky sleeping bags for wearable blankets!
There was a time when I needed a giant roof bag just to haul bulky sleeping bags and blankets. These sherpa lined wearable blankets give us all the comfort we need without restricting my freedom, and they pack down tight!
Our fleece lined sleep pants feel like blankets, too.
Sherpa lined sweat pants are like ultra warm blankets for the legs!
A bug suit is more portable than a screen house
My bug jacket provides excellent protection near mosquito infested rivers, and it takes no room to transport.
An awning setup is less bulky than a rain house
This isn't my picture, but it inspired me to create a similar design for pennies on the dollar. First, I tie little loops to each end of my roof rack to make a place to attach carabiner clips. I use the carabiner clips to hold up one end of the tarp. The other end is propped up by telescoping tarp poles. The whole system breaks down easily and packs down tight.
