How to Control Insects when Camping Near Water
Take it from someone who has been in the pest control industry for 12 years. You're not "glamping" if you spend your precious vacation worrying about various diseases that can be contracted from fleas, ticks and mosquitoes. With a cheap portable sprayer, it's possible to kill and repel a wide variety of critters that would otherwise ruin your trip.

It only takes a few minutes to spray your campsite with a good organic pesticide, and the effects will last throughout your trip.

Which Scents Last Longer? Many different oils will kill fleas and repel mosquitoes, but you should consider the evaporation rate of various oils. In aromatherapy, a "top note" is the first note you'll smell in a perfume blend. It comes out fighting but fades quickly. A "base note" is the lingering essence you smell when the top note is long gone.
Common Top Notes: Orange, lemongrass, eucalyptus, peppermint, tea tree, sage, thyme and spearmint. (All of these will attract bees). Common Base Notes: Cedar, clove, patchouli, frankincense, sandalwood My Personal Favorites: Cedar is my top favorite for outstanding residual effects. For residual affects that last for MONTHS, spread cedar granules. All liquids evaporate eventually, but granules will give off a new burst of pest controlling aromas each time it rains. Avoid Scents that Attract Bees: Bees are attracted to plants such as lavender, spearmint, oregano, peppermint, thyme, lemongrass and sage. Don't saturate your campsite with oils that have the potential to attract large numbers of bees to the area. |
Here's a great organic repellent for direct skin treatment and treatment of dogs. It even kills fleas and bedbugs on contact!
Dr. Ben's Evictor is an organic pesticide formula that can safely be applied to humans, dogs, carpets, clothing, furniture and household surfaces without staining. It can be used as a direct hit spray for common household insects you see and a lasting repellent to discourage new insects from returning to sprayed territory. Our quart size provides enough fluid to treat one average-sized room for fleas, mites, spiders, bedbugs and more. Complete spray instructions may be found on our spray instruction page. TIP: Remember that flea and tick problems originate OUTDOORS. A simple dose of our organic yard concentrate will help control parasite issues in the grass. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. If your indoor problems began after a landscaping project that required the dumping of soil and mulch, outdoor treatment is an excellent idea.
